SMALL ASOS HAUL

Hi everyone! Okay so I finally caved and bought a couple of things from my wishlist. Along with these bits I also bought a pair of culottes from New Look that you can see in my latest outfit of the day. Although neither of these ASOS pieces are really suitable for someone on a 'student budget' (oops), they're both totally timeless and great quality. I know you can get similar shoes from Primark for a fraction of the price, and these gypsy tops are everywhere at the moment so I'm sure the more bargain-savvy of you will be able to get these things for a lot cheaper elsewhere.
Pictures of both of these pieces off the hanger and not actually on my body (that sounds weird but we'll go with it) really don't do them justice so I'll be sure to be doing outfit posts in the upcoming weeks. I'm so excited to style them!

PROM SEASON WITH AISLESTYLE.CO.UK

It's that time of year again! Summer is right around the corner, and for any of my 16-18 year old readers that means prom is looming, too. I remember my Year 11 prom all too well (I wore a horrific sateen dress and chose a hair accessory that looked more like something you'd find at the bottom of a bin), so to ensure you don't make the same mistakes, I've picked out three of my favourite dresses from Aisle Style, a company specialising in formalwear. If you have an occasion coming up (they cater for weddings, cocktail parties and basically anything that needs a fancy dress), then I'd totally recommend checking them out. They have a great selection of stylish and affordable dresses, whatever your taste. Whether you'd rather go for a classic huge princess dress or a more demure, understated piece, they have a great range of colours and styles. If you like what I've chosen, I'd recommend checking out their 'evening dresses' section as that's where I found all of my picks.

Off the Shoulder A Line Floor Length Chiffon Evening Dress - £168   £118.99 (I love the sleeves/exposed shoulders on this dress!)

A Line Floor Length Stretch Satin Evening Dress - £158   £118.99 (this is so Game of Thrones, am I right?)Have you got a formal event coming up soon? Or have you got an embarrassing Prom story?Elly xxx

DO NOT BE ASHAMED TO BE A FEMINIST

I, like many people of my generation, am a feminist. However, it hasn't always been so.

For years I was of the belief that feminists were an elite group of so-called 'man-hating' women. They were the crazy people who looked down on men (despite doing everything they could to look like them), who shamed sexually liberal women and judged whether or not a woman (or God forbid a man) had the 'right' to be a feminist.

Although there are always exceptions, this stereotype could not be more wrong. If my experience is anything to go by, I think we're breaking down this assumption now. For me, feminism means equal rights, plain and simple. It means giving men and women of all sexualities the right to express themselves. It means breaking down gender roles and accepting gender identities. It means ending the shaming of women for being women. It means ending the shaming of human beings for being human beings. It challenges stereotypes and labels. It encourages a different outlook on the world to that which society has constructed for us. It involves educating children about sexuality and addressing society's taboo subjects. It insists on making the media a more sex positive, realistic and equal place. Above all, it means creating a more open, safe and accepting society. For everyone.

And I've probably not even scratched the surface.

I urge you: do not be ashamed to identify as a feminist. All it means is that you are a decent person. If you believe in equal rights, you believe in feminism. Do not be intimidated by it, or think it's 'cool' to reject it. Start challenging the world around you and don't except inequality when you see it. If you want to learn more watch something like Emma Watson's HeForShe speech at the United Nations.

If I've realised anything over the last year then it's this: Feminism is for everyone, for everyone.

THE UGLIEST SHIRT IN MY WARDROBE

Whilst in New York last weekend (read my blog post about it here) I picked up this shirt from H&M. There are loads of H&Ms in the city, but the one situated just off Times Square was the absolute dream. Jet lagged and slightly delirious, being surrounded by so many amazing clothes actually made me cry (please don't judge me). There were so many things I wanted, but this was the piece I settled for in the end.

This shirt is possibly in the running for the ugliest item I own, but I absolutely love it. There's just something about the stylised floral print and the muted yet luminous colour scheme that works so well together. I'm loving this kind of colour scheme at the moment which makes a change from my usual monochrome. I think it's important sometimes to embrace ugly items and not be afraid to make a statement from time to time, and this piece is perfect for that!

Despite being a pyjama style the shirt is actually really structured, so it works both as a shirt and as a light blazer. It can add a really interesting and even slightly formal element to an all black outfit ), or be paired with other statement pieces (such as a white or suede skirt) to create a really interesting 60s/70s inspired look. I'm so excited to style this in a few different ways and you'll definitely see it make an appearance on my blog!

Buy it here at H&M (£29.99).

Have you bought anything amazing recently?
